Artist Statement
I was born and raised in Central Alberta and now live in the foothills north of Calgary.
The ideas for my paintings come from my experiences and photos I have taken living and hiking in Alberta and travelling abroad.
The strength of a painting is more important to me than being super realistic.
Natural surroundings have always been a strong influence on me, letting me feel like a small part of the world.
Art courses from the University of Alberta in the 1980s were my first formal training.
I enjoy studying other painters and paintings, both historic and contemporary.
Recently, extended trips to Holland, France and Italy allowed me to see, study and experience the great art in the galleries and museums of Europe.
